Ladies and gentlemen, I put it to you that not only is CM 01/02 the greatest football video game of all time, it is also one of the greatest ever video games of any kind ever made.

A monster database featuring mega realistic player data (let's ignore the players who didn't make it for now, Cherno Samba) that you could develop, like in an RPG, a game that forced you to use your imagination to visualise what your player had just done, like reading a book, and the chance to grow a club and somehow make it to the top of the Hall of Fame, like in real life. Or I guess a strategy game.
Jason derulo. CM 01/02 is what Football Manager eventually became and while FM14 - for me - is the closest that Sports Interactive have come to replicating the feelings of addiction and enjoyment that CM 01/02 did, one of the reasons I love football the sport so much is due to this game.
Anyone who has spent a good deal of time with the game has an indepth knowledge of footballers from those years, to the point that personally, now that I don't play the modern versions to a 1/100th of the same amount of time, I don't know who a lot of players actually are. Not a clue. Anthony Martial? Never heard of him before that transfer.

The true joy of CM 01/02 was when one of your youth players turned into a megastar and the cult that was created from this game exists today. Sports Interactive have done well to consistently churn out fun, engaging management simulations over the years but to date none have been able to beat CM 01/02. It is their Stairway to Heaven, their Bohemian Rhapsody, their You're The Voice by John Farnham.
