PDF-XChange Editor is a lightweight PDF editor and viewer that allows you to create, view, edit, annotate, OCR and digitally sign PDFs. While most functionality is free, some features require payment and are clearly indicated. These will place a watermark on your output.
PDF-XChange Editor is the successor to the excellent PDF-Change Viewer. Its design has been totally overhauled, making it much clearer and easier to use.

Aside from that, PDF-XChange Viewer boasts all of the same strengths as its predecessor, with editing tools for highlighting, selecting and striking out text. The selection of stamps and commenting functions lets you easily track changes in documents – features sometimes excluded from free PDF readers.
You can also extract or delete entire pages from a long PDF file and embed new content like text, images, blank pages or entire PDF documents.
PDF-XChange Editor is also excellent for converting documents between PDF and Word formats, and even includes an OCR (optical character recognition) for converting scanned documents into editable text.

PDF-XChange Editor’s installer contains plugins for Firefox and Internet Explorer. You might find these handy – they add the editor’s features to PDFs viewed in your web browser – but you can deselect them by choosing the Custom Setup option if you prefer.
Once you’ve started it, the program is very easy to use, whether you prefer a Microsoft Office style ribbon interface (a good choice for touchscreens), or the more traditional system of toolbars and menus.
The only drawback of PDF-XChange Editor’s is the large number of editing tools marked with a shopping cart icon, indicating that they’re only available in the premium version. However, the free software is so generous, this is easy to forgive. Your document will be watermarked if you use a premium tool without buying a license, but PDF-XChange Editor will warn you before this happens.

PDF-XChange Viewer is a proprietary PDF reader for Microsoft Windows available for free.[3][4][5][6] Some years ago, its further development has been stopped in favour of freemium shareware PDF-Xchange Editor, which replaces it; future releases are maintenance updates only.[7]
The basic reader, which can be downloaded free of charge, includes extended/markup capabilities such as typing, highlighting, callouts, and notes. Another useful feature is its ability to display PDF files in the 'preview' pane of the Windows Explorer without locking the file (and thus allowing for easy setting of metadata info).An advanced paid version was also available.
It supports saving of filled PDF forms (AcroForms) and import/export of form data in FDF/XFDF format. Since version 2.5 there has been partial support for XFA and export of form data in XDP or XML format. It added OCR support as of version 2.5.
PDF-XChange Lite print driver is a print driver enabling the creation of PDFs from Microsoft Windows applications. It is free for academic and home use. Also available is PDF-XChange Standard,[8] which brings advanced PDF creation options.
A related product is PDF-Tools,[9] which allows creation and manipulation of PDFs from a variety of sources including images, text documents, etc. Batch conversion capabilities with filename macros are included.
Finally, a number of PDF-related SDKs for developers are available, including PDF Tools SDK, PDF-XChange Viewer SDK, PDF-XChange Drivers SDK, and Image SDKs.[10] These allow creation, manipulation, reading, writing, OCR, search, and display of PDFs; and multi-language support (C++, C#, C, VB, VB.NET, Delphi, Clarion) is available.
PDF-XChange Viewer works under Wine, providing another way to annotate PDFs under Linux.[11][12]
